Growth arrow for your business

You're asking the wrong question

This week I continue to meet businesses who are closing temporarily at some level, or suspending their activities. Not all, but some people that I talk to are assuming that there is little to nothing that they can do for the coming weeks or even months ahead. After several of these conversations, I realized that the difference between assuming that your business can’t grow right now, and growing your business, is in this case, a shift in mindset.

Say I pose this question: How can your business grow this month? Not if, or when, but how? Let’s assume it can grow.

Is your physical retail location closed? How are your online sales doing?

Are in person meetings canceled? Now may be the time to try videoconferencing.

Is your typical networking and prospecting not an option? You might find that your prospects are all working from home with a surprising amount of time on their hands to research and evaluate new products and services.

Believe me, I get stuck too. Sometimes it’s just so easy to assume that there isn’t any other option, and I default to the option of being stuck.

The reality is, that businesses who continue to innovate, adapt, and reach out might actually be able to gain more market share and growth than they would in a seemingly normal environment.

In addition, I’m picking up that there’s a wave of community building going on right now, that we are all Americans, and we’re all in this together. I’m hearing stories of consumers buying gift cards for their favorite small businesses who are closed right now. Stories of growing businesses hiring the unemployed quicker than they might otherwise.  Be one of those people, and decide how you can help someone else, either as a business or a consumer.

So here you go:  How can you grow your business this month?

Go get ‘em!
